25 students from  MMU Melaka and Cyberjaya, Selangor are those who behind this charity program.

Realizing the poor life of muslim community in Cambodia is still plagued by terrible poverty and low educational level after the reign of Pol-Pot’s communist regime in Cambodia from 1975 until 1979 in which Malay-Cham community who were all muslims and have customs and history of their own be the massacre victims thus, this program was established. This welfare program will be implemented in Battambang province, located in northwestern Cambodia on 13th until 20th October this year.

The main objective of this program is to educate the muslim minorities in this area about the basic islamic education in a daily life as a muslim. In addition to Cambodian muslim community, this program also aims to provide exposure and create awareness among participants about the fate of muslims of this third world country as well as to test of the leadership skills of the participants. Apart from that, this program will also strengthen the fraternity among the participants and the muslim community in Cambodia.

In addition, several other activities like aqiqah will also  be held there. The public can be involved indirectly in this program by participating in this aqiqah in Cambodia activity. This activity can be accompanied by anyone either parents or adults who are interested in doing aqiqah for their children or themselves. Through this activity, those involved will not only perform the sunat muakkad but also indirectly helped the muslim community in Cambodia. There was a hadith narrated by Ahmad, “from Samurah reported, saying of the Prophet s.a.w, “every child is held in pledge for its 'Aqeeqah which is sacrificed for him on his seventh day, and he is named on it, and his head is shaved.”

Rumdul - National flower of Kingdom of Cambodia

Rumdul or its scientific name, the Mitrella mesnyi is a national flower of Kingdom of Cambodia as how we, Malaysia have bunga raya (hibiscus flower) as our national flower. It was proclaimed as the national flower by  King Sihamoni of Cambodia in 2005.

also known as Mitrella mesnyi

it is a species of flowering plant in the soursop family, AnnonaceaeThis plant has a yellowish-white flower with a single alternate leaf. It has a height of 8–12 m and a stem diameter of 20–30 cm. It gives out an attractive smell in the late afternoon and evening, a distinctive fragrance that can be smelled from a long distance.
The rumdul plant also bears edible fruits growing in clusters that will turn dark red when ripe.
The rumdul is very common in Cambodia, where another flower known by the same name is Melodorum fruticosum.

Cambodian people like to grow it for decoration of houses and public parks. Due to fragrant smell of Rumdul flower, ancient time of Khmer people like to use it for material to produce lip waxes fro women. Stem of Rumdul can also be used for supplement construction materials and firewood. In the season of maturing of Rumdul fruit, people who live close to the forest is always collecting the Rumdul fruits to sell for living. Due to the attraction of fragrant smell, therefore, Khmer women have been compared to the Rumdul flower, and also some Khmer’s author has written some song such as Rumdul Kraties and Rumdul Pursat, etc.

Knowing Cambodia

Kingdom of Cambodia

the flag of Cambodia

Cambodia, officially known as the Kingdom of Cambodia, is a country located in the southern portion of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. With a total landmass of 181,035 square kilometres (69,898 sq mi), it is bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, and Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest.

map of Kingdom of Cambodia

With a population of over 14.8 million, Cambodia is the 69th most populous country in the world. The official religion is Theravada Buddhism which is practiced by around 95% of the Cambodian population. The country minority groups include Vietnamese, Chinese, Chams and 30 various hill tribes. The capital and largest city is Phnom Penh, the political, economical, and cultural centre of Cambodia.

The kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with Norodom Sihamoni, an elected monarch chosen by the Royal Throne Council, as head of state. The head of government is Hun Sen, who is currently the longest serving leader in South East Asia and has ruled Cambodia for over 25 years.

Hun Sen, current Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia

In 802 AD Jayavarman II declared himself king which marked the beginning of the Khmer Empire. Successive kings flourished which marked the Khmer empire's immense power and wealth who dominate much of South East Asia for over 600 years. Cambodia was ruled as a vassal between its neighbours, until it was colonized by the French in mid-19th century. Cambodia gained independence in 1953. The Vietnam War extended into Cambodia, giving rise to the Khmer Rouge, which took Phnom Penh in 1975. Cambodia re-emerged several years later within a socialistic sphere of influence as the People's Republic of Kampuchea until 1993. After years of isolation, the war-ravaged nation was reunited under the monarchy in 1993.

Rebuilding from decades of civil war, Cambodia has seen rapid progress in the economical and human resource areas. The country has had one of the best economic records in Asia, with economic growth growing an average 6.0% for the last 10 years. Strong textiles, agriculture, construction, garments, and tourism sectors led to foreign investments and international trade. In 2005, oil and natural gas deposits were found beneath Cambodia's territorial waters, and once commercial extraction begins in 2011, the oil revenues could profoundly affect Cambodia's economy.
